I.T. POLICY In
May 1998, the Prime Minister of India formed a National Taskforce on
Information Technology and Software Development to formulate a long term
National IT policy for the country and also removes impediments for the
growth of the infotech industry in India. The objective was to help India
emerge as an IT software superpower. The Taskforce has submitted three key
reports to the government, suggesting various measures to build India's
infotech industry and proliferate use of IT in the country. The three

Action Plan - III (Long Term National IT Policy) State IT Policies In
the last few years, 18 state governments have announced I.T. policies.
These policies focus on the key issues of infrastructure, electronic governance,
IT education, providing a facilitator environment and increasing IT proliferation
