MUSEUMS  :

Agakhan palace 

The agakhan palace is a combination of Moslem and French architecture is sited on about 19 acres of land of which 7 acres including the palace were donated by H.H prince Karim Agakhan to Gandhi Smarak Nidhi in the Gandhi centenary year 1969. During the internment in the agakhan palace SHRI MAHADEVBHAI DESAI and Kasturba Gandhi passed away on 15 August1942 and 22 Feb 1944 respectively to their heavenly abodes 

Their samadhis were erected at the rear side of the palace mahatma Gandhi’s ashes are also laid next to the samadhis. Kasturba amriti Mandir a spacious hall is built near the samadhis which is used for holding meetings and seminars throughout the year. There is a fruit orchard near the samadhis, which beautifies the entire site.Fruit, and vegetables are grown on the farm adjoining the orchard. 

This campus at the Agakhan palace is known all over the world as a national memorial of Ba and Bapuji is also a place of pilgrimage for national an international tourists.

The campus is always busy with the meeting seminars and conferences. the use of the premises is extended for activities promoting the message of national integration and social development of women and children.

Activites: 

1)      picture gallery and museum:pictures of the freedom fight movement and glimpses of Gandhi’s life.

2)      Mahadev printing press: the principal objective is to provide training cum occupation to needy women

3)      Nursery school(Madhurika): It is  afull fledged nursery school divided into junior and senior nursery school.in the memory of late Mira bahen (miss Slaid disciple of Gandhi)

4)      Rural social workers training: The main purpose is to train and prepare a cadre of young women social workers who will be willing to undertake work in community services as rural, constructive social workers.

5)      Khadi Gramodyog Vidyalaya for women: This institute is recognized and financed by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission. The training is for a period of 10 months.

6)      Masala training unit: it is run to train women in spice making to make women self sufficient.

7)      Tailoring, embroidery and readymade garments.

8)      Training in fruits and vegetables processing and preservation.

9)      House helpers training

10)  Refugee guidance Centro.

11)  Energy park: The use of solar energy is well demonstrated by installing solar cookers, heaters ,street light ,fountains etc. 

Seminars 

The society organizes local national and international level seminars and workshops on various issues relating to women.

Raja Kelkar Museum : 

Each big city of the world has its own unique mark by which it is remembered in the hearts of the tourists and visitors. Paris is known by the Eiffel tower. The city of Pune in Maharashtra will doubtlessly be borne in mind by the Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum, a unique one-man collection of historical and everyday-use artifacts. 

The museum building with a historical appearance and the galleries unmistakably remind one of the life and culture of the Maratha period. The artifacts displayed in this building take one to the style of a life the people lived at that time form dawn to dusk. A major department Vanita Kaksha is devoted to the life of a woman of that period. It perpetuates the most valuable contribution of Mrs. Kale to the growth of the museum.

Dr Kelkar started collecting exhibits around 1920 and one by one, section by section he raised the collections to around 15000 objects of great attraction till the year 1960. As a result of public appreciation Dr. Kelkar decided in the year 1962 to hand over his collection to the Department of Archeology, Government of Maharashtra for developing it as a regional museum with the better display and maintenance of its exhibits.

Location:

The, museum has at present a collection of 20000 objects divided into 40 sections among which prominently figure the attractive lamps paintings, tambool objects, musical instruments, wood work and so on housed in a three storey building located at 1377 Shukrawar Peth, Pune, off Bajirao Road. 

Library: 

A library with books on art history and conservation is also must for the museum which has one of its important tasks to understand an make known the cultural tradition of the country in the light of the exhibits. 

Laboratory 

The museum has rightly equipped itself with a conservation laboratory with modern most instrument and it is adopting up to date techniques to display the  exhibits.
