Pimpri Chinchwad

As you leave Pune and start going towards Mumbai, by the perpetually busy Mumbai-Pune national highway or by a train of the Central Railway, after about 20 minutes of journey, you begin to notice an increasing number of industrial establishments present on both sides of the road.  Even as recently as about 15-20 years ago, Pimpri-Chinchwad area was just a small township, with various types of industries establishing themselves in and around it. Pimpri and Chinchwad were two separate towns then. But as the area began attracting more industries, big and small, and as the population of the area started growing, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation was established in October 1982. Pimpri Chinchwad and a sprawling 87 square kilometers area was unified under the umbrella of this corporation.

The Corporation has never looked back since then. To begin with, the area was seen as no more than just an industrial city known for culture as well as center for encouraging sports activities. In addition to industrial development the corporation has been making concrete and conscious efforts to provide all kinds of amenities like housing, medical facilities, good roads, education etc. to its citizens. Moreover the corporation has been building cinema theatres, drama theatres, cultural centers, modern swimming tanks, hockey grounds, training centers for various sports like wrestling, etc.
